Sandhills Region: The Sandhills of North Carolina was rated one of the Top Golf Destinations, boasting 43 golf courses within a 15 mile radius.  The golf courses in the Pinehurst Area garnered 19 spots in the "Ranking of Top 100 golf courses in North Carolina" (www.ncgolfpanel.com).  The 2006 Edition of Golf Digest "Best Places to Play", included 29 of the 43 courses in Pinehurst, Aberdeen, and Southern Pines.  The Sandhills Area of North Carolina was voted one of the top three golf destinations that offers 25 or more golf courses. It also boasts the location of the 1999 & 2005 Men's United States Open Golf Championships and the 2001 & 2007 Women's United States Open Championships.
