The Cascades Course William
S. Flynn Design
Consistently ranked among Golf
Digest's and Golf Magazine's top fifty golf courses,
this William S. Flynn design is renowned as the finest mountain
course in America and as one of the best golf courses in Virginia.
It is best said that Flynn's golf design uses its mountain location
to influence play, but not to dictate it. Therefore, talented
players at this Virginia mountain golf course can use the slopes and
roll to their advantage, but less skilled golfers will not find
themselves penalized by forced carries or unfair hazard placement.
Designed in 1923, The Cascades has hosted seven USGA Championships.
The most recent golf championship being in 2000 as the Cascades
hosted the U.S. Men's Mid-Amateur. The Cascades also has been the
site of such prestigious PGA events as the 1995 and 1996 Senior PGA
TOUR Shoot-Out Championships.

The Lower Cascades
Robert Trent Jones,
Sr. Design
The waters rushing through this luxury
golf course in Virginia widen into a peaceful stream at
the valley floor on the Lower Cascades course. Don't let
this lull you into a false sense of confidence. Designed
by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. in 1963 for the golf resort,
The Lower Cascades features Jones' trademark runway tee
boxes and wide-open fairways. Jones also included severe
green contouring with exaggerated breaks on this Virginia
golf course, and strategically placed bunkers for a
competitive golf game. The Lower Cascades has hosted U.S.
Men's Amateur qualifying rounds. |

The Old
Course
Donald Ross & William S.
Flynn Design
The Old Course enjoys the distinction of having
the oldest first tee in continuous use in the U.S. In 1892 it was
part of a six-hole layout. By 1901 the golf course had been
enlarged to 18 holes and 6,000 yards, and in 1913 the legendary
Donald Ross provided a professional design that continues to
challenge golfers on this championship golf course in Virginia.
And, as the game of golf has evolved over time, so has The Old
Course, with updates by William S. Flynn in 1925, and under the
direction of Rees Jones, a more than one-million-dollar redesign
has been performed on the Old Course, to preserve the essential
flair and enhance the traditionally favorite characteristics of
this Virginia golf favorite. Abundant fairway contouring
gives most shots a side hill, uphill or downhill lie to smallish
greens, making approach shots interesting. This Virginia luxury
golf course offers six par-5s and six par-3s - including par-3s to
conclude each side - give this layout a unique flavor. The golf
course also features a driving range and putting green that are
adjacent to the course, and were added as part of the
million-dollar redesign as well. |
